"COMPUTER - CRYSTAL" (1 - 4)
The first designs on the PC...on the Atari PC...that are impressive...! A beautiful crystalline work that is unique in its 3D effect. It is precisely the coloring, in addition to the formal design, that gives the structure, which unfolds enormously geometrically, the necessary three-dimensionality, which also corresponds to a certain expectation of geometric shapes. The basic colors yellow-red-blue can be found here in many variations of pastel tones...one could say that the intense colors all emphasize the closeness to the viewer and thus strengthen the 3D function or make it possible in the first place...! A colorful masterpiece, the likes of which are rarely found in this color constellation today...!
1) “EUROPA SPACEVIEW”
shows the impression of a dream map from space, which is absolutely subjective and has no claim to realism. The picture was born out of the completely new painting experience that my old Atari computer and its successor, the “..”, offered me. This first impression was disconcerting at first, since I already had many years of experience in graphic and painterly terms, and you know what expectations these arouse when trying out new “materials”...! The absolute boldness of the artificial colors irritated me a little at first, but I quickly recognized the expressive value of this monotonous and smooth colouring. It required a quickly reacting sense of color to break through the apparent limitations of the color palette in the initial phase...!
In this work, the only variation can be seen in the colors of the country outlines, which are limited to three hues (blue-violet-black)...! There are still some light and dark blue patches, which have no line boundaries and thus transfer the creation of form, as in Matisse's work, exclusively to the color areas set against each other.color areas set against each other...! All in all, a free, fast and unconscious painting process that courageously and self-confidently leads to the creation of a dream image...!
2) BALL-EYED FISH
This picture thematizes the underwater world and thus creates the connection to the first work, which shows us the view from the macro world to the earth, to Europe...! An aquatic world, which is represented in this fish, the ball-eyed fish....! It swims in blue water below the surface, and you can see the tilted surface of the seawater from an oblique perspective. It looks a bit like a photographic snapshot or a quick selfie. The fish seems to be pondering...., but in any case it exudes a certain dignity as it looks at the viewer, expelling air bubbles as if to say: “Yes, that's how it is....I also have to come up for air every now and then to become a really good spherical-eyed fish, because I'm still young....!”
The picture with the apt title: “KUGELAUGEN-FISCH” („BALL-EYED FISH“) uses minimal technical accessories as they were offered back in 1993. I managed to transform the large, white surface of the eye into an eye in a matter of seconds with the help of a spray spiral and a vertical pupil: into the pensive looking/gawking eye of a ball-eyed fish...! I also used the spray setting for the coloring for the fins and the edge of the fins...! The underwater air bubbles emitted by the fish are created with the shape effect palette. The overall coloring is freely “inserted” and creates this beautiful free-shifting color surface inside and outside the drawn form, as we know it from Raoul Dufy, for example.
3) “DEEP-SEA FISH WITH PARASITES”
A shy fish from the depths of the sea is depicted here, living in symbiotic harmony with the parasites that thrive on it and with it. This deep-sea fish swims gracefully out from behind a coral reef and looks at us calmly with its red eye, its large nose and feeding lips clearly visible...! Piggybacking in colorful style, it carries various parasitic aquatic creatures that seem to be an integral part of its large body. They look like swimming turtles, curved limpets or simply suckers...! Stuck to its belly is an unpleasantly large, never-before-seen jellyfish-like animal that is currently pregnant and raising smaller jellyfish inside itself.....!
A small universe shows its grotesque side here, bringing brighter sea light from below towards the viewer, only to disappear again behind the reef the next moment...after the big body show....!
Similar to the “KUGELAUGEN-FISCH”, fine outlines and clear areas of color are used here to create the shape...but with the difference that here the limited areas are meticulously filled in and also meticulously marked in the graphic cutting areas with complementary or contrasting colors. This creates a 3D-like dimension that decisively characterizes the entire form and gives the viewer's imagination undreamt-of possibilities for development...!
“GEOMETRICS” I
These works can be traced back to Wassily Kandinsky, whom Pfützenreuter admired. In a free realization, he groups circles, triangles, rectangles. Ovals and ellipses to each other in such a way that they seem to float, but not chaotically, but in such a strict structure that the harmony and the resulting peace are immediately apparent. Except for red-yellow and blue, the colors are kept pastel-like, whereby new mixed tones are created when they overlap...!
The first collection is entitled: “STRENGTH HARMONY”
GEOMETRICS II
Here again is a collection of figure-like works with a figurative quality, subtitled: “Burden Elephant at a Party I - III”.
Here Pfützenreuter fills his geometric surfaces completely, creating a strict relationship between the colors. The predetermined form serves as a filling surface for colors screaming for place and form...! The elephant's facial expression is distorted in pain and there is a path across the large animal in the form of a beam of light and a hanging rope ladder to the saddle....for the rider, who is absent....! There is also a battle shield as if from a knighthood...!
'GEOMETRICS III'
Bild 1) This picture is somewhat reminiscent of Paul Klee's “Zwitschermaschine”, but this work is completely autonomous and is titled: “VIRUS PROCESSING PLANT” We see a clearly structured “device” that brings viruses of various kinds into processing, first takes them out of the air and captures them and then processes them into puree using a sophisticated mechanism. With his color concept, Pfützenreuter has created an absolutely positive variant of virus control, a good 30 years before “Corona” ....!
Bild 2) A good 30 years before 'Corona', this work deals with the great attack of the virus wave, which is why the title of this work is “VIRUSWAVE” ....! Pfützenreuter uses almost mild, cheerful colors that symbolize the creeping danger of these pathogens. A wave of different viruses forms, which are simply part of life....! That is the impression conveyed by this picture...!
“GEOMETRICS IV”
We see a collection of geometric shapes: from triangles, rectangles and squares to circles, ovals and ellipses...! These shapes and the corresponding play of colors provide a view of a futuristic landscape consisting mainly of houses and vehicles. But it could also be a jungle of street signs and concertante street lighting, including a wide variety of transmission masts and other aerials, which nowadays, if you make an effort, represent a new form of harmony, but you would have to be a technology enthusiast...!
Purely in terms of the choice of colors, it can also be a beautiful field of flowers, no matter what the eye of the beholder decides. We are therefore here in a “FULL-ABSTRACTION” that cannot be surpassed in openness. Pfützenreuter calls his work: “CONSTRUCTION I”...., which takes full account of this openness....!
“GEOMETRICS V”
Here the geometric shapes again follow a clearer goal, namely the importance of connecting particles, regardless of their origin. There are exactly two triangles and an important large oval that connects them and two rods that give the whole thing stability. One of the vertical rods connects the small triangle with the upper suction cup and thus creates a certain spatial stability, away from the latent floating character of all parts...! The strange free-floating hairs (four groups of three and three groups of two) point to biological connections and once again bring up the health-threatening idea of viruses...! But since the color harmony is so successful, especially due to the wonderful background color: “old rose”, this thought immediately recedes into the distance and disappears again as soon as it is thought of. It could rather be a “psychogram of a healthy patient I”, freely translated into visual language, who has just been discharged from therapy....! This is also the title of this work.
“GEOMETRICS VI”
Here is the second pedant to Paul Klee's “The Chirping Machine”: The “VIRUS MANIPULATION MACHINE I” from 2002. A successful adaptation and secret prophecy by Pfützenreuter, who could never have dreamed that this dystopia would one day be realized...!
The collected viruses, which are characterized by these typical two or three long hairs on their bodies as not only purely chemical, are sorted and stored! They are not recognized as a threat...hence the friendly (inconspicuous) choice of colour...! Pfützenreuter has created a beautiful machine that appears as natural as the colors and shapes with which it was brought to life. It's all basically a game, an independent self-creating development of forms that make up the humorous charm of Pfützenreuter's work...!
